Disclosure regarding the ads: Google Custom Search requires that ads are displayed in the search results. The configuration panel does not allow you to optionally link your AdSense account to a particular set of search results. It is all or nothing; either Google's ads or ads linked to your AdSense account. Since I already have existing custom search engines, the ads you may see below are linked to my AdSense account.
